Established in 1987 by Michael Boyle, MPB Structures Limited stands at the forefront of the UK’s concrete frame and civil engineering sector. For decades, we have delivered complex structural and civil engineering solutions of some of the country’s most ambitious developments, and we have done it through a blend of engineering excellence, innovation, and a relentless commitment to safety, quality, and collaboration.

MPB Structures delivered the basement, twin reinforced concrete cores, and floor slabs for 3 Chamberlain Square within Birmingham’s Paradise Circus. The design featured a large slipform core and post-tensioned slabs to ensure construction efficiency. A notable element was the five-metre perimeter cantilever at Level 02, supported by complex RC beams within a ten-metre-high atrium.

Glasswater Locks was a transformative mixed-use development located in Birmingham’s Learning Quarter, close to the city centre and the upcoming HS2 Curzon Street railway station. The development spans a 1.28hectare site and included 753 contemporary canal side apartments and duplexes, with building heights ranging from 10 to 38 storeys. The project also featured 20,000 sq. ft of commercial space. With the basement construction utilising a combination of sheet and contiguous pile walls.

MPB was engaged as Principal Contractor for the initial six-month enabling and groundworks phase at the former Longbridge Rover factory site. This critical early scope involved site preparation, service diversions, and ground remediation. Following this, the team delivered the complete reinforced concrete substructure, which featured the basement box, capping beams, and pile caps, alongside all necessary waterproofing and damp-proof membrane installations.

MPB Welcomes New Procurement Policy Note Prioritising Skills in Public Contracts
MPB Structures welcomes the recent announcement from the Cabinet Office regarding the new Procurement Policy Note (PPN). Effective from January 2027, the updated framework will double the minimum social value weighting to 20 per cent on government contracts valued at £5 million or more. Most notably, the policy refines social value outcomes to two core criteria: ‘good jobs’ and ‘skills’. This structural change means that apprenticeships, training, and work placements will effectively count for double in the bidding process. As an organisation deeply committed to workforce development, we fully endorse this strategic alignment of public spending with long-term skills generation.
